Gabriel Meffre signature Crozes Hermitage
2018 was atypical in many ways. This vintage required a constant presence from the vineyards to the cellar. After a mild Winter, the wet and rainy Spring gave way to a beautiful Summer, favoring a perfect growth of the grapes. September then ushered in an Indian Summer that proved to be more than ideal for harvests with cool nights and warm & sunny days. The grapes were harvested for a total of 8 weeks at optimal maturity and under ideal climatic conditons. The result is an elegant vintage with a particularly aromatic profile and a superbe balance.

Grape Varieties:

100% Syrah

This Crozes Hermitage is made from Syrah grapes grown on pebble and on granite soil located on terraces on the left bank of the Rhône.

Grapes are destemmed and crushed. The fermentation lasts around 20 days with temperature control to preserve aromas. Wine is racked off and undergoes malolactic fermentation. Maturing in vats for 8 months. Ageing in bottle.

Tasting notes:

"The 2018 Crozes-Hermitage St Pierre is slightly more fruit-foward, with a fleshy, ripe, yet elegant style to go with lots of blue and black fruits, ground pepper, and earthy minerality. Nicely textured, balanced, and with a solid mid-palate” Jeb Dunnuck (12/12/2019)

Service & food pairing suggestions:

It pairs nicely with lamb and tomato.
Serving temperature: 16°C.
It will improve in the cellar in the next 7 to 8 years.

We have chosen the name « Saint Pierre » as a reference to the oldest monument of the department, the “Saint Peter tower”, which proudly overlooks the village of Serves sur Rhône, on the Crozes Hermitage appellation.
