The Gabriel Meffre Winery acquires 11ha in Cairanne, strengthening its foothold in the Rhône Valley

Gabriel Meffre, a winery with strong roots in its region

The vineyards encompass 11ha of vines split between AOP Cairanne (7ha), AOP Rasteau (1.5ha) and Côtes du Rhône Villages (2.5ha). An acquisition that is a natural step in the winery’s development strategy and in line with its objective to strengthen its regional position in the Côtes du Rhône Crus:

“With this acquisition, we are demonstrating our strong attachment to the southern Rhône Valley, where we are one of its long-standing players. It also gives us greater security in terms of our supplies and the quality of the wines we produce,” explains CEO Etienne Maffre.

An extended range for Domaine de Longue Toque

The wines produced from these vines will round out the current Domaine de Longue Toque range, the flagship collection of the winery in Gigondas. The winery already owns 36ha of vines in AOP Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu & Côtes du Rhône and is currently in its third and final year of organic conversion. Along with the 43 hectares of HVE3-certified vines at Château Grand Escalion in Costières de Nîmes, the Winery now manages 90 hectares of vines.

A red Cairanne released in 2019

The Cairanne vines are mostly planted in the appellation’s southeast, on the terraces and hills along the Ouvèze. In continuation with the Plan de Dieu terroir, the soil is composed of pebble-rich brown alluvium over safres (sandy-marl) soil from the Miocene. From this year, a red “Domaine de Longue Toque” Cairanne will be sold to the traditional sector in France and on export markets.
